OddBallers is an online multiplayer party game where each round is a new absurd type of dodgeball. Developed by Game Swing and published by Ubisoft.
I worked on OddBallers for two years, leading up to it's release and maintaining it for some time after. The game is released on all major platforms (PS4, PS5, XBOX ONE, PC, Switch). The game is made in Unity and uses Photon for multiplayer networking.
I was responsible for a number of things: from designing fun game modes, ball types and items, to implementing localization and accesibility features, to porting the game to PlayStation 4 and 5 and developing the UI.
Given the small size of the company, I was handed a large amount of responsibility and I had to work proactively with my colleagues to take features from initial concept to a polished and fun state.
We worked iteratively and cooperatively, playtesting our game weekly. We also worked within Ubisoft's AAA structure, communicating with interational QA testers and developers and ensuring technical requirements for consoles and high levels of polish.
I was a designer on the game modes Volcano Wrath and Cursed. Both game modes feature unique dodge-ball game mechanics and ball types and are designed to foster cammeraderie and skill expression.
In the pictures you can see the games lobby with it's diegetic UI, along with the game modes Volcano Wrath and Cursed.
In Cursed, the dodgeball is a "hot potato" that electrocutes the player who holds it after a short time.
In Volcano Wrath, the players are bombarded with changing patterns of lava that will kill them if they miss-rememeber the pattern.
