OddBallers

OddBallers is an online multiplayer party game where each round is a new absurd type of dodgeball. Developed by Game Swing and published by Ubisoft.

I worked on OddBallers for almost two years, leading up to it's release and some time after. The game was published by Ubisoft and was released on all major platforms (PS4, PS5, XBOX ONE, PC, Switch). The game has since continued development and still has a small player-base.

While working on the game I was responsible for a number of things from designing game modes to implementing localization and accesibility features to porting the game to PlayStation 4 and 5 as well as working on the UI.

I was a designer on the game modes Volcano Wrath and Cursed. In cursed the dodge ball is a "hot potato" that electrocutes the player who holds it after a short time. In Volcano Wrath the players are bombarded with changing patterns of lava that will kill them if they miss-rememeber the pattern.

Since the company is small, I was given a large amount of responsibility and large tasks. For example, when porting the game to the PlayStation I worked with only one other programmer and the previously described game modes were entirely designed and implemented by me and one other designer.

When working on the game we worked iteratively and cooperatively, always working at least two people together and playtesting our game every week to make sure everyone was on the same page. The game was made in Unity and used Photon for networking.

In the pictures you can see the games lobby with it's diegetic UI, along with the game modes Volcano Wrath and Cursed.
